Welcome to the Society for Astronomical Sciences
The Symposium on Telescope Science
The annual SAS Symposium has become one of the premiere events for amateur astronomers and for building pro-am collaborations. Amateurs, and some professionals, make presentations covering a wide range of topics, from imaging basics, to photometry, to spectroscopy, to instrumentation, and more. Observing targets reach from near-Earth to the edges of the Universe. If you're interested in seeing how you can contribute to astronomical research using amateur-scale equipment, this is one event you should plan to attend each year.
The Proceedings of previous Symposia, and videos of many of the presentations, are freely available on the Publications tab.
The 2019 SAS Symposium was held on May 30-31-June 1, in Ontario, California. This was a joint meeting with the Center for Backyard Astrophysics.
Dates for the 2020 Symposium will be published in the 4th quarter of 2019. The “Call for Abstracts” will be released in the 4th quarter of 2019, and on-line Registration for SAS-2020 will open in January, 2020.View the Invitation and details
