You do NOT have to be a member of SAS to take part in the workshop
This hands-on workshop will be held Saturday, September 18, from 8AM to about 12 Noon during the Pacific Astronomy and Telescope and Show (PATS) in downtown Pasadena, CA.
The first half of the workshop, you will learn how to use MPO Canopus to measure the lightcurve of an asteroid and determine its rotation period. During the second half, you will learn how to use Canopus to measure images of a variable star in batch mode and then report your data directly to the AAVSO.
All participants will receive a free, fully-working copy of MPO Canopus and a printed version of the MPO Users Guide, a set of step-by-step tutorials that take you through the main features of the software. These materials are provided through a grant from the National Science Foundation.
The workshop registration fee goes entirely to the Society for Astronomical Sciences (http://www.SocAstroSci.org) and covers the costs of staging the workshop and in support of the Society’s on-going work to promote and help faciitate pro-am collabortions in astronomical research.
